Koala Cubs Early Learning Centre Philosophy

The Reggio Emilia approach inspires the philosophy and teaching practices of Koala Cubs Early Learning CentreThe Early Years Learning Framework of Australia is used as the Framework for Educators and Centre Practices.

We believe and respect that children learn best by play. Play has cognitive, physical, emotional and social benefits for the child. It is a time when children can make sense of their world and this is fostered throughout our Learning program. We value and empower children to be active participants in their world and we involve them when making decisions, especially about the matters that directly affect them.

We listen to their views and respect what they have to say. We scaffold them when needed and make them grow into their highest potential. We create a safe haven that allows children a platform to express their views and influence their contribution.

At Koala Cubs Early Learning Centre, following the Reggio approach the environment is seen as the third educator. Our indoor environment encourages participation and develops confident and involved learners. Our environment promotes independence and autonomous activities which are based on children’s interests, needs and strengths. Objects, tools and materials are displayed at the child’s height and categorised for easier selection and aesthetics. There is a strong emphasis on sustainability using the outdoors as a natural learning environment. Recycled and natural objects are used as learning tools and mediums to express themselves. Art materials are selected to stimulate creativity and provide exposure to various forms of expression. We feel passionate about creating an environment for your child that is secure, stimulating and rich in aesthetics, with sensory rich indoor and outdoor environments that openly encourage expression, creativity and boundless exploration.

We believe in promoting and protecting…

LIFE-LONG LEARNING

We strive to instil values of respect, kindness and self-worth, believing that children, families and educators co-exist together to achieve the common goal of life long learning.

our beautiful planet through sustainable practices.

We believe:

  • That families are their child’s first educator.
  • That all families perspectives and feedback is valuable in our Koala Cubs Community.
  • That families should be encouraged to contribute and be regularly updated of their child’s progress and development.
  • That each family’s choice should be valued and respected acknowledging culture, spirituality, belief and faith.

We believe:

  • Children model what they see and feel.
  • We believe when they observe the close relationships between the educator and their parents, children learn a valuable lesson about life.
  • If the adults in their lives show cooperation, collaboration and respect to one another, so will the children.

Our goal continues to be that your family, as part of our Koala Cubs community, experience a sense of belonging and purpose in this journey. We know that working closely together must be constantly negotiated and nurtured and we endeavour to do so.

Reggio Emilia Approach

Reggio Emilia is a small town located in Northern Italy, where the beginnings of an inspirational education program was launched over 50 years ago, and continues today.

The Reggio Emilia approach is internationally known for its influences on the education and care of all children.

This learning has become a source of motivation for educators within the industry, to promote children’s development through experiences, which engage them to explore, discover, and inspire, prompting young minds in their imagination, and challenging their thinking.

The Reggio Emilia Approach provokes a richness of learning in an environment that scaffolds children’s learning in play spaces to make their learning visible.

Loris Malaguzzi was the founder of the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy. In 1963, he began working with the cities administration on opening the first municipal schools. He had a vision to inspire young children, for lifelong learning.

Loris Malaguzzi wrote the inspiration for the hundred languages poem that we connect with so much here at Koala Cubs.
